Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has joined the family, fans and well-wishers in mourning the demise of late Nollywood actor, Dr Kola Oyewo.
Oyewo, a renowned filmmaker and retired lecturer of Theatre Arts at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, breathed his last on Friday, June 12, 2026, after battling prostate cancer.
Responding to the death of the legendary thespian on Saturday, Atiku expressed deep sadness over his demise.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Kola Oweyo, a legendary thespian and scholar of African drama.
"His iconic role as King Lapite in the timeless "Saworoide" immortalised his immense talent and teachings," the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said in a statement on Saturday.
He stressed that "a great void has been left in Theatre Arts" with the passing of the late actor.
"He will be sorely missed by lovers of African stories worldwide.
"I join his family and fans in mourning this exceptional dramatist and teacher of social conscience. May his soul rest in peace," Atiku wrote on his Facebook page.
