Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Tueaday, approved the declaration of a curfew in 10 local government areas in the state.
The affected local governments are those bordering the Old Oyo National Park believed to be used by terrorists to keep the students and teachers recently abducted at four communities in Oriire LGA of the State.
Secretary to Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, in a memo on Tuesday, stated that the curfew is effective from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Prof. Babatunde stressed that the curfew, which will be in force between 4pm and 8am, will last for 48 hours in the first instance.
The affected local government include Oriire, Orelope with headquarters in Igboho, Irepo with headquarters in Kisi, Saki West - Saki, Saki East - Ago-Amodu, Atisbo - Tede / Ago-Are, Itesiwaju - Otu, Iseyin with headquarters in Iseyin, Olorunsogo - Igbeti and Atiba which has its headquarters in Offa-Meta, Oyo.
Sources said the declaration might not be unconnected with the efforts of the Oyo State Government to facilitate the release of the abducted persons who have spent more than a month in the den of their abductors.
