A renowned filmmaker and veteran actor, Alagba Kola Oyewo, is dead.
Oyewo, a retired lecturer of Theatre Arts at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, reportedly passed away on Friday at the age of 80.
The respected thespian only marked his 80th birthday anniversary in March 2026.
Nollywood actor, Bayo Bankole, popularly called Boy Alinco, who was a former student of the deceased at the University announced the demise of the veteran actor on Friday.
"A great actor finally took a bow. Rest in perfect peace Uncle Kay. Balogun Kola Oyewo. It was an honor to have worked with you, I took pride to have been the stage manager in your final year project. Till we meet to part no more. O digba sir", Bankole wrote on his Facebook page.
Similarly, Nollywood actor Kunle Afod also confirmed the demise of Oyewo via a post on his Instagram page.
”Tonight, we lost a true legend. Kola Oyewo has taken his final bow. His remarkable talent, timeless performances, and immense contributions to the Nigerian theatre and film industry will never be forgotten.
"His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest well, sir. Your work lives on. It's a wrap,” Afod wrote.
The deceased started his acting career in 1964 after he joined the “Oyin Adejobi theatre group”.
He was known for the role he played as Odewale in 'The Gods Are Not To Blame', a drama by late Ola Rotimi.
