Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to late President Muhammadu Buhari in the Office of the Vice President, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, on Saturday bemoaned the performance of equipment deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at his political unit in the ongoing 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
Ojudu, who described the delay as unacceptable as the first voter at the polling unit wondered what it would take INEC to attend to all voters with delayed data capturing.
"INEC, this is unacceptable," Ojudu lamented.
Narrating his challenge before voting on Saturday, the former Ekiti West senator said, "I am the first voter in my polling unit. Nearly 30 minutes after accreditation began, your (INEC) equipment has still failed to capture my details.
"If the very first voter requires 30 minutes, how many hours will it take to process hundreds of voters waiting patiently to exercise their democratic right?" he queried.
The journalist turned politician hoped "this is an isolated incident and not a statewide malfunction."
He expressed worry that, "If not addressed immediately, this could disenfranchise many citizens and cast a shadow over an exercise that should inspire confidence and trust."
He called on the electoral body to immediately swing into action in addressing the delay. "INEC must act swiftly."
