The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, stopped the execution of the Monday ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja for the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord and three others political parties.
Recall that the Federal High Court presided by Justice Peter Lifu had on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the five parties.
Ruling on the stay of execution appeal on Tuesday, the Appealate Court chided Justice Lifu, saying he exhibited judicial rascality by proceeding to hear and made the order in the suit despite the order of the Court of Appeal and the pendency of the matter before the court.
The court ordered a stay of the execution of the Federal High Court judgement.
Aside the ADC and Accord, the other remaining political parties affected by the Monday order include ADC, ZLP, APP and AA.
Justice Lifu had ruled that the parties be deregistered by INEC for allegedly failing to meet the Constitutional threshold of Section 225 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to continue existing as a political party.
Dissatisfied by the order, INEC had approached the Appealate Court on Tuesday to seek an order to halt the execution of the ruling.
