Oyo State Government on Saturday, June 27, 2026, lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas along the Old Oyo National Park corridor in the State.
RhemDy News recalls that the State government had on Tuesday imposed the curfew following the recent kidnapping of student and teachers at Esiele and three other communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
The initial 16-hour curfew was later extended on Thursday, scheduled to elapse on Saturday, June 27.
In a statement lifting the curfew on Saturday, Commissioner for Information in State, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said residents can now resume their normal activities.
He expressed the appreciation of the government for the cooperation and understanding of the people in the affected areas during the curfew.
Oyelade added that the government was closely monitoring the security situation and reassured residents that efforts were ongoing to bring the kidnapping episode to an end.
The affected LGAs include Oriire, where some students and teachers were abducted by bandits over a month ago.
The rest are Oorelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
Although, the state government did not disclose the reason for the curfew, it is however believed that it was not unconnected with the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the abducted persons from the den of the terrorists.
