Police Nab 6 Suspects Over Oyo Abduction

By Remi Adebayo

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of six persons suspected to have links to the abduction of children and their teachers at Ahoro-Esiele school and three other communities in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources disclosed that the arrested suspects were tracked through telephone conversations with the bandits.

Security reports have also confirmed that none of the main bandits hiding in the forest have been arrested yet as they continue to evade tracking.

Oyo State Police Command further disclosed that those arrested are local informants and couriers.

Among those apprehended were two commercial motorcyclists who were arrested in Ojoo, Ibadan while trying to collect ransom.

Three other suspects from Gbugbu in Kwara State and Ago-Are, Oyo State were picked up during follow-up operations.

A university student was also arrested by military personnel after a victim’s phone was found with him. Security agencies withheld specific addresses due to ongoing prosecution.

The Oyo Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said intercepted calls showed that informants were giving the bandits directions to navigate Old Oyo National Park and evade security borders.
