Terrorists Abduct Students Writing NECO, Kill Teacher In Borno

Unconfirmed number of students were on Monday abducted when suspected terrorists stormed the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, located in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

​Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno State Command, Nahum Daso, who confirmed the incident stated that several students were still missing following the attack.

​Daso further disclosed that security forces engaged the attackers and prevented what could have been a larger abduction.

“Around 9am in the morning, ISWAP attacked Lassa Day Secondary School. They shot sporadically. An unspecified number of students have been abducted.

​"Security forces confronted them. For now, we have an unspecified number of students who were abducted. The CP deployed the Area Commander in Askira/Uba. They are currently combing the bush,” Daso said.

Also, the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, who also confirmed the attack, said the attackers who wore military and forest guard uniforms also shot dead a teacher with another sustaining gunshot injuries.

​Kaigama also noted that the bandits passed a military checkpoint before attacking the school.

"Yes. There was an attack on students writing NECO Exams. The terrorists came around past nine. They passed the military checkpoint. They wore military and forest guard attire. They shot sporadically.

"They killed one teacher from Chibok. They shot another, but they are not dead yet. They also kidnapped some students and women selling on the school premises. The numbers are not yet known,” he added.

A resident of the community who also said the bandits came in numbers, added that soldiers stationed at the area had gone on patrol to another community when the terrorists came. 

"They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere,” he said.
