Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma on Wednesday averted what could have been a devastating terrorist attack on the residents of Baicen Dauran VIllage in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State as they mounted a rapid response that forced the assailants to flee.
The incident, which occurred on the night of Wednesday, June 10, underscored the growing importance of timely intelligence and rapid military intervention in the ongoing battle against armed terrorist groups operating across Nigeria’s North-West region.
According to military sources, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dauran received information at about 9 p.m. that terrorists had launched an attack on Baicen Dauran Village.
Without delay, the troops moved into action, engaging the attackers while simultaneously requesting reinforcements from Battalion Headquarters.
Credible military source disclosed that swift coordination between frontline troops and the reinforcement team proved decisive.
As additional forces advanced towards the village, the terrorists found themselves confronted by a determined military response and abandoned their operation to flee the area in disarray on sighting the advancing reinforcement.
Beyond driving the attackers away, troops carried out extensive night patrols along critical routes in the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks.
The patrols was also carried out to reassure residents and demonstrate the military’s continued presence in vulnerable communities.
Military sources said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to deny terrorists the freedom of action across Zamfara State and the wider North-West theatre.
