Unauthorised Entry Of Cameroonian Troops Into Nigeria Community Resolved — Army

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has noted concerns arising from the unauthorised entry of personnel on 9 June 2026 of the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The Nigerian Army said the troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base Danare promptly responded and contacted appropriate Camerounian Armed Forces authority upon receiving reports of foreign military presence in the community.

This led to the withdrawal of the Cameroonian troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols. 

Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, maintained that the situation was immediately contained without further escalation.

Ayeni said preliminary findings indicate that the incident was triggered by a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in neighbouring Cameroon.

"In furtherance of existing diplomatic and military cooperation and as a confidence‑building measure, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division has directed the Commander 13 Brigade to visit his Cameroonian counterpart for further engagement on the situation. 

"This is designed to strengthen border coordination, clarify operating procedures along the boundary, and prevent future occurrences," the Acting Director stated.

He assured of the Division's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the security of all communities along the nation’s borders in its Area of Operations. 

The Army assured residents of Danare and adjoining areas that the situation is now calm and fully under control, stressing that the Nigerian troops remain vigilant and will continue to monitor border activities.

Members of the public are therefore urged to remain calm, continue their lawful activities, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension.
