The United States military has announced the killing of a top leader of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi, in Syria.
In a press release on Wednesday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces conducted an airstrike that resulted in the death of the senior ISIS leader on June 19 in northwest Syria.
The statement said the precision strike that killed al-‘Ulaywi and was part of ongoing efforts by the United States to disrupt and eliminate terrorists seeking to attack Americans abroad or the U.S. homeland.
The US military assured that CENTCOM forces will continue to work alongside regional partners.
CENTCOM commander, Adm. Brad Cooper, assured that the US forces "and our partners remain committed to rooting out remaining remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat".
He further restated that CENTCOM, “We will continue to defend the U.S. homeland, our service members, and allies and partners across the region.”
