Legendary Yoruba films actor, Pastor Taiwo Adeshina, who is known by his stage name, Elegbeje Ado, is dead.
The iconic thespian died on Monday, June 29, 2026, after a brief illness.
His demise was announced on Tuesday by Afrimek Media.
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pastor Taiwo Adeshina (Elegbeje Ado), a beloved Nollywood legend, who passed away after a brief illness on June 29, 2026.
"Your remarkable contributions to the Yoruba movie industry and the lives you touched will never be forgotten.
"May God grant you eternal rest and comfort your family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. Rest in peace, legend," the statement read.
After his devotion to the Christian faith, Pastor Adeshina officially transitioned from secular filmmaking to full-time gospel film ministry, debuting with his first Christian movie titled "Egberun Odun", 1,000 Years in 2025.
Elegbeje Ado, who was a household name in early Yoruba-language films, had been away from the secular movie industry for about nine years during which he yielded to a higher calling and founded Heroes of Faith Gospel Film Ministry, a platform dedicated for Christian films.
Gospel filmmaker, Samn Odusolu announced the entry of the veteran actor into Christian movie industry via a social media post last year.
"I am happy to announce that the former
veteran Nollywood actor popularly known as Elegbeje Ado now Pastor Adeshina Taiwo, who has stopped acting in secular movies for the past 8 years, recently produced his ministry's first gospel movie titled: "Egberun Odun, 1,000 Years." I was privileged to be part of the production by the grace of God," he wrote.
Adeshina's demise came about three weeks after the passage of another veteran thespian, Dr. Kola Oyewo who passed away on June 12, 2026.
