The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday, appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to answer questions on the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila's lawyer, Jiti Ogunye disclosed in a statement on Monday, that his client responded to the invitation to the Chief of Staff over the ongoing investigation into the acclaimed non-existent agency.
"In full cooperation with the ICPC acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the ‘PFIPC’ fake agency, among others," Ogunye said.
The Counsel further stressed that while being investigated by the agents of the anti-graft Commission, Gbajabiamila answered their questions and has since returned to his duty post.
"My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post," he said.
RhemDy News reports that the Chief of Staff was mentioned in the controversy surrounding the legitimacy of the PFIPC which has since generated nationwide debate over its existence, budget approval and office allocation.
The embattled Director General of the agency, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, was last week taken into police custody as investigations progressed by the ICPC following the recent directive of President Bola Tinubu.
The Presidency had maintained through a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, that Gbajabiamila was the initiator of the process to probe the agency and Adeniyi last year, following the suspicion that greeted the operation and existence of the agency.
