The Oyo Global Forum (OGF), a worldwide group of professionals from Oyo Federal Constituency, has called on the government at all levels to ensure that abduction of pupils and their teachers are not repeated anywhere again across the nation.
The OGF made the call in its reaction to the Friday, July 10, 2023, rescue of all 39 pupils and five teachers abducted on May 15, 2026, from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement on Sunday, OGF Chairman, Taiwo Adebayo, expressed profound joy and satisfaction following the freedom of the victims of the terror attack in Oriire LGA.
"The government across all levels must urgently put certain measures in place to prevent a reoccurrence," he demanded.
Adebayo noted that the release of the victims has brought sense of relief to the affected families, the local communities, and the general public who have followed this harrowing ordeal.
"OGF highly commends the joint security forces, including local collaborators, who worked under tough conditions for nearly two months, applying sustained pressure, pinning down the terrorists and ensuring the victims were not moved out of the Old Oyo National Park.
"We would like to stress that the immediate well-being of the survivors must now be the top priority.
"It is imperative that they are promptly provided with comprehensive psychosocial support to help them process the deep trauma of their captivity and begin the journey toward healing and rehabilitation," he said.
Looking ahead, while thanking President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde for their leadership, the Forum emphasised that the nation's collective mindset from this moment must strictly be "never again."
Adebayo said, "This requires proactive, long-term security strategies that enhance the resilience of communities and integrate into an early-warning system implemented not only in Oriire but nationwide, with a specific, focus on blocking the southward expansion of terrorism".
The OGF Chairman also stressed the need to enhance development at rural communities with access services to deny armed groups the opportunities to entrench themselves.
