Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Mankinde, on Tuesday, received the long-awaited two Diamond DA 42 MNG Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
The whereabouts of the two aircraft had generated debates following recent abductions of pupils and teachers at Oriire Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrival of the aircraft, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in a statement in Ibadan, said the arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance.
Oyelade noted that, “Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, confirmed that the aircraft arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos.
“The State Government had, about a week earlier, assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, adding that the latest development fulfilled that commitment."
The commissioner stressed that the aircraft were expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response efforts across the state.
Opposition figures in the State have called out the governor, insisting that insecurity in the State would not have worsened as recently experienced if the surveillance aircraft had been in place.
