The United States military, on Wednesday, resumed airstrikes against Iran to degrade the country on the navigational obstruction of the Straight of Hormuz.
The renewed conflict was announced on Wednesday by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
In a statement on Wednesday evening, CENTCOM stated that the resumption of additional strikes against Iran was to further degrade the country's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Straight of Hormuz.
"At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," it stated.
The statement added that the United States holds Iran "accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway."
President Donald Trump had earlier on Wednesday described deals with Iran a "waste of time" over strikes on ships in the Hormuz", declaring the ceasefire between both countries over.
Trump had threatened to “hit Iran hard again tonight” when he spoke to reporters on Wednesday.
