Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a 27-year-old Yusuf Lamina Adigun, a suspected cult member, in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the State.

Police said the arrest followed sustained efforts to rid Lagos State of cultism and other violent criminal activities.

A statement on Saturday by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said operatives also recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge from the suspect during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area.

SP Adebisi explained that the operatives intercepted a motorcycle conveying three passengers and during the search, one of the passengers, Adigun, was found in possession of the loaded firearm.

She added that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

He further disclosed that he and other members of the cult group, currently at large, were on a mission to launch an attack on some individuals before they were intercepted by the Police.

The PPRO added that the suspect was being detained in Police custody while efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at combating cultism and other violent crimes across the State.

CP Fatai also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist the Police in preventing crime and ensuring the safety and security of all.
