Makinde Inaugurates Probe Panel On Oyo Pupils, Teachers' Abduction

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Friday, July 31, 2026, inaugurated a panel to unravel the circumstances behind the May 15th abduction of pupils and teachers at Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the State.

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry has been mandated to investigate the abduction of the abducted victims who were rescued on July 10.

Retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Professor Mojeed Owoade is the Chairman of the eight-man panel which also has Professor Jibril Ibrahim, Mrs. Ayo Obe, retired AIG  Ngozi Onadeko, Dr. Abimbola Orogade, retired Major General Sanusi Nasir Muazu (former General Officer Commanding 2 Division), and Mr folorunsho Osunrayi as commissioners.

Governor Makinde also named Mrs. Olamide Sandra Tella as the Secretary to the Commission.

''I called you out on a national assignment and none of the 8 of you hesitated for once to accept to participate on this important call to duty, God bless you'',  Makinde lauded members of the panel.

RhemDy News recalls that the Oyo State Governor had called on the United Nations to assemble an independent inquiry into the much condemned abduction in the aftermath of the rescue of the victims. 

While the call was welcomed in certain quarters as necessary to prevent future reoccurrence, critics of the Governor believed that Makinde went too far in demanding an external body to investigate an internal incident concerning a sovereign nation.

Such concern could be responsible for the decision of the State Government to set up an internal commission of inquiry to unravel the unprecedented mass abduction of students in the South-Westenern part of Nigeria.
