The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi did not bestow any chieftaincy title on Yoruba actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, the palace has clarified.
There have been reactions to the purported chieftaincy title on the actor received a car gift from the foremost monarch who visited him at his palace during the week.
Oba Ogunwusi had gifted the actor and his wife, Luminee, with a brand-new car and according to Baba Ijesha, he was also bestowed with the title, “Baba Awada Konge Ooduwa, Ile Ife, Ile Oodua”.
Reacting to the claim in an interview with a popular news medium, spokesperson of the Ooni, Moses Olafere, denied the knowledge of the chieftaincy title.
“Kabiyesi gives cars to people. This is not the first time. He has given cars to many people, including kings and other individuals, and this is not new.
"Many people have benefited from Kabiyesi’s car gifts, including me and popular figures like Haruna Ishola and Sefiu Alao. He gives out cars almost every day,” Olafare noted.
Baba Ijesha was slammed with a five-year imprisonment term in 2022 following his conviction for raping the 14-year-old daughter of fellow Nollywood actress, Princess.
He eventually served out his jail term and was released on November 15, 2025.
