Oyo Prince Babatunde Okediji Elected President Of Nigerian Students In South African Varsity

Oyo Alaafin-born trained geologist, Babatunde Okediji, was on Saturday, July 18, 2026, elected the President of the Congress of Nigerian Students at the University of Johannesburg (CONSUJ) in South Africa.

Okediji, the Chief Executive Officer of Glostevs Resources Ltd. defeated three other candidates to emerge as the president of the estimated 400-member Congress.

The Oyo prince from the Ona-Aka Royal Family is presently a doctoral researcher in Environmental Management at the South African institution. 

Prior to pursuing his doctorate degree at the University of Johannesburg, he had obtained both his Bachelor of Technology in Geology and Master of Technology in Environmental Geology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.

Okediji is also a corporate member of many professional bodies including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association for Engineering Geology and Environment (NAEGE), Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (NAH), International Association for Engineering Geology and Environment (IAEGE) and Student member, American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES), among others.

In November 2012, he was admitted into the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), the highest regulatory body for Geoscientists and allied professionals as a registered geoscientist.

He is expected in his new role to provide scholarship and requisite leadership to members of the Nigerian student community in the University during his tenure.
