Passengers on an Enugu Air plane, on Thursday, escaped what could have been a fatal accident after the aircraft veered off the runway at the Benin Airport in Edo State.
The incident occurred shortly after the plane landed at the airport, sliding off into the adjacent grassy and muddy terrain.
Although viral videos showed the aircraft surrounded by vegetation, aviation authorities and the airline have confirmed that all passengers and crew member disembarked safely without injury.
Confirming the incident, Enugu Air, in a statement acknowledged that the incident occurred during a routine landing operation.
“We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked and there were no injuries or casualties,” the airline said.
It further stated that the aircraft was quickly secured, notified relevant aviation authorities, and that an assessment of both the plane and the circumstances was underway.
Also, emergency responders comprising airport fire services and medical teams, were on standby and acted promptly to support the evacuation.
In the same vein, passengers aboard the aircrafy were transported to the terminal, and it was believed that the incident may result in temporary flight disruptions.
Affected travelers will be contacted directly with assistance.
The Enugu State Government-owned airline emphasized that the safety of its passengers, crew, and operations remains its highest priority.
