The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, was at its headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Confirming Gbajabiamila's apprearance at the Commission, ICPC's Head, Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, said in a statement on Tuesday, that he came to give a statement in connection with the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had recently directed the Commission to investigate the PFIPC.
The Presidency had, through a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disowned PFIPC as fraudulent.
Tinubu directed the anti-graft agency to unravel how the agency came to operate from within the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, for a reported period of about two years, under Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who alleged to have paraded himself as the Director-General of the said Council.
The ICPC spokesperson disclosed that Gbajabiamila arrived at the Commission in the afternoon on Monday and spent some time attending to enquiries from investigators, after which he departed the premises.
The Commission also confirmed that the Chief of Staff's visit was on the invitation of its investigators and consistent with its ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the ongoing investigation.
Odey added in the statement that Gbajabiamila was not arrested but that he willingly honoured an invitation by the Commission.
ICPC stated that its investigations continue, pledging that further updates will be communicated as appropriate.
