The Chief Imam of Oyo, Barrister Billal Hussein Akinola Akewugberu, has called on Muslims to preach Islam peacefully without insulting or confrontation with their listeners.
Barr. Akewugberu also urged Muslims to adopt wisdom and peaceful dialogue when engaging with traditional worshippers.
He cleric gave the charge during a strategic meeting of Imams, Alfas, and Islamic organisations where he called on Muslim faithful to focus on preaching Islam in a manner that promotes peace, understanding, and unity.
Speaking on engagement with people of other faiths, particularly traditional worshippers, the Chief Imam noted that insulting their revered deities is counterproductive, acknowledging that such may provoke them into insulting Allah.
Akewugberu further emphasised on respectful sermons and good character as more effective means of conveying the message of Islam than abuse or hostility.
As part of the measures to promote harmony and better understanding of the Islamic faith, the cleric charged Muslims to embrace peaceful da'wah, mutual respect, and wisdom in their interactions with people of other beliefs.
