Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a kidnap attempt in Sokoto State, rescuing four abducted victims after engaging armed terrorists in a gun battle during a swift intelligence-led operation.
During the operation which took place on Friday, July 10, 2026, troops successfully thwarted the kidnap attempt by suspected terrorists in Shengel, Sokoto State and rescued the victims without recording any casualties.
According to military sources, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists were carrying out kidnapping activities in the area.
Acting promptly on the information, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Unashi swiftly mobilised to the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action.
On arrival, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ response, the terrorists abandoned the four kidnapped victims and fled into the surrounding bush.
The rescued victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
Military authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation described as another demonstration of the troops’ commitment to protecting lives and combating insecurity across the North-West region.
