The President Donald Trump-led Government of the United States has condemned in strong term, the killings of family members of outspoken cleric, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, in Plateau State.
In a statement on Thursday, the United States Embassy in Nigeria described continued violence targeted at Christian communities and other vulnerable populations in the Middle Belt as deeply alarming.
"The United States strongly condemns the horrific killing of members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State, Nigeria.
"The continued violence targeting Christian communities and other vulnerable populations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt is deeply alarming.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and all those affected. As I discussed last week with Nigerian officials, we must do more to prevent violent acts like those yesterday," the statement said.
It charged the Nigerian government to ensure that those responsible are held accountable with measures urgently in place to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.
"The perpetrators must be held accountable, and urgent action is needed to strengthen security and protect Christians and other vulnerable communities," it said.
The United States expressed its continued commitment to working with the Nigerian government and partners to combat terrorism and counter violent extremism.
It further pledged to ensure that Christians and all Nigerians can live and practice their faith freely without fear of violence or persecution.
