The Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday issued Certificate of Return
to the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke following his victory in the
Saturday, August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.
Governor
Adeleke who received his Certificate of Return at the INEC’s state headquarters
in Osogbo, Osun State capital was accompanied by government officials, party
leaders, supporters, and other stakeholders.
The presentation of the Certificate of Return marks a significant
milestone in the post-election process and demonstrates official affirmation of
the victory.
Recall that Governor Adeleke of the Accord party defeated his
closest challenger, Ashiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly called AMBO,
of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to win his reelection as the elected governor
of Osun State.
The Returning Officer for the Osun
governorship election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who announced the results at
the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo early Sunday, said Governor Adeleke polled
511,067 votes to emerge as the winner of the keenly contested exercise.
For his part, Oyebamiji of the APC came
second with a total vote of 444,815 while Najeem Salaam of the African
Democratic Congress (ADC) followed at a distant third with 17,180 votes.
