The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has invalidated the title of Yeye Atayese Oniyemonja Of Oyo land purportedly conferred on a Brazil national, Paola Almeida Ferreira.
According to the revered monarch, Ferreira was conferred with the traditional title in Oyo on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The revocation was contained in a statement dated August 26, 2026 and signed by the monarch and sighted by this newspaper, where Oba Owoade maintained that no such traditional title can be conferred without his knowledge and permission.
"This statement is to certify in exercise of the powers conferred upon me
under the native laws, customs and chieftaincy tradition of Oyo Land that any traditional title can't be conferred without the awareness and permission of the authority of the Alaafin in Oyo community and its environs," the paramount ruler said.
He stressed that the Alaafin remained the custodian of the historical and cultural heritage in Oyo, thereby voided the title.
"Therefore, the Alaafin of Oyo, the custodian of the historical and cultural
heritage in Oyo as the prescribe authority, hereby informs that the title Yeye Atayese Oniyemonja of Oyo Land, bestowed on the 23rd August 2026 to Paola Almeida Ferreira, Brazilían citizen is officially invalid", the statement maintained.
