The planned nationwide strike over opposition to ban preaching in commercial buses have been suspended.
Convener, Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF), James Paul Adama, who disclosed this on Friday, said the suspension followed the intervention of the Department of State Services (DSS) after a meeting on Thursday.
"Yesterday, Concerned Christian Youth Forum was invited by the DSS National Headquarters regarding our planned protest over the proposed bill banning preaching in buses.
"We attended the meeting with full confidence, and to the glory of God, the meeting went exceptionally well.
They appealed to us to suspend the protest temporarily while they brief Mr. President on the matter," Adama disclosed.
He added that the Service expressed genuine appreciation for the Forum's approach on the legislation and assured of continued collaboration on national security.
"We were also informed that several of our letters have been received by their state commands across the country," he said.
Adama commended CCYF Coordinators and members across 35 States for their genuine commitment to sustaining peace and readiness for the planned protest.
"I am deeply proud of each of You. May the Lord bless you abundantly in Jesus’ precious name. Jesus Christ is Lord," he wrote.
RhemDy News recalls that the controversial bill before the Senate has generated reactions, especially from the Christian community, who views the proposed ban on preaching in buses as violation of their fundamental right to religious practices.
According to promoters of the bill, the proposed legislation seeks to outlaw preaching and hawking in commercial buses to lessen distractions on drivers that could result to road crashes.
