CCYF Condemns Kano Cleric's Labeling Of Nigeria As Islamic Nation

By RhemDy News

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF) has strongly condemned Kano-based Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir for declaring that Nigeria was an Islamic nation.

CCYF described Jingir’s declaration as divisive and a provocative rhetoric, calling for restraint, national unity and respect for Nigeria’s secular constitution.

The Convener of the Forum, Paul James Adama, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, noted with deep concern and firm rejection the recent public statements attributed to Sheikh Jingir where he openly advocated for a continued Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the country.

"Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, You stood up, called Nigeria a Muslim country, branded those who reject your fantasy “infidels,” and told your people to show us our “limit.” Yet right now this same Nigeria has roughly 20 Christian governors against 16 Muslim governors. One drunk on supremacy rhetoric cannot erase that arithmetic with a microphone," he said.

Adama argued that if Nigeria was truly a Muslim country as claimed, the map of state houses would look very different. "It does not. The South-East, South-South, and large parts of the South-West and Middle Belt are under Christian governors. That is not a theory. That is the current political reality.

"Your claim collapses under the simplest count of who actually sits in the 36 Government Houses.

"A Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket does not rewrite demography or turn a multi-religious republic into your personal theocratic estate. Elections are not religious censuses. Governors are not population certificates.

"Nigeria has never conducted an official religious headcount since 1963. Every percentage you wave is an estimate. Pretending otherwise is either ignorance or deliberate deceit," Adama said.

He chided the cleric for speaking "the language of conquest while the country burns from insecurity, hunger, and institutional failure."

"You measure who is “more” while citizens of every faith bury their dead and struggle to eat. That is not strength. That is distraction dressed as piety," Adama added.

The CCYF Convener maintained that Christians have largely kept the peace that comes from the teachings of Jesus Christ, not from fear of his threats.

"It is a deliberate choice. It is not a permanent licence for any cleric to spit on equal citizenship or to declare that Nigeria “belongs to us.” Continue this line and you will discover that patience has edges.

"Nigeria is not your trophy. It is not a Muslim country.  It is a secular, multi-religious state in which Christian governors currently out-number Muslim ones. Your rhetoric does not change that fact. It only exposes how little you care about the unity you claim to protect," the statement added.

Adama urged the Islamic cleric to stop the supremacy talk, stressing that he already had the numbers to answer him.

RhemDy News recalls that the trending video clip of Sheikh Jingir surfaced on Sunday where he boasted before a political crowd with Goveorr Abba Yusuf in attendance among others, of Muslim domination of Nigeria, referencing the Muslim-Muslim ticket that produced President Bola Tinubu.

Jinhir also advocated continued replication of the mono-religious political domination, declaring that Muslims dominate the county.
