The Federal Government has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and other stakeholders to address the social, economic and security challenges confronting the country.
The assurance was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume on Wednesday in Abuja.
Akume said the President Bola Tinubu-led administration believes that lasting solutions require sustained partnership with faith-based organisations, traditional institutions, civil society, the private sector and the citizens.
He added that the government remains open to constructive dialogue and honest counsel, adding that recent discussions with the Catholic bishops covered issues around insecurity, the economy, education, public services, electoral credibility and religious freedom.
The SGF reaffirmed the administration's commitment to democratic principles, stressing that it neither seeks nor supports a one-party state and will continue to respect the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He also acknowledged the Catholic Church's contributions to national development and assured that consultations with the bishops and other stakeholders would continue in the interest of peace, national unity and sustainable development.
