IBEDC Gives Reason For Lower Units Against Electricity Purchase

Company Plc (IBEDC) has reacted to the complains of customers over the recent lower units credited their meters against the cost of electricity purchased.

The development has raised public fears of likely secret tariffs hike by the distribution companies.

However, the IBEDC, in a public announcement posted to its verified X on Tuesday, titled: "Public Announcement

Explanation Of Lower Electricity Units After Vending," ruled out increase in the current tariffs.

"Dear esteemed customer, we have noted concerns raised by some customers regarding lower-than-expected electricity units received after recent vending, and we understand the inconvenience this has caused," the disco said.

It clarified that Band A tariff has not changed and that customers on that category remained billed at N209.50 per unit, inclusive of VAT.

Explaining the reason for the lower units, the IBEDC said, "Between April and June 2026, an internal system glitch mistakenly applied the old tariff to some customer accounts. This caused affected customers to receive more units than they had actually paid for."

In order to correct the mistake, the IBEDC noted disclosed that the it was adjusting the units credited earlier with the limited units credited the affected customers.

"We are now correcting this error by adjusting the excess units previously credited to affected accounts.

"This correction is why some customers have noticed fewer units than expected in recent vending," the announcement stated.

It urged customers who wish to confirm whether their accounts were affected to call 07001 239999 with meter number,

name and phone number.

"We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by this system glitch and appreciate your understanding as we resolve the issue," the management stated.
