The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed strengthened security measures and intensified operational efforts following the terrorist attack along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Ten (10) police officers and other innocent citizens lost their lives in the dastardly attack.
In furtherance of this directive, the IGP, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, deployed a delegation led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Kebbi State to engage with the State Governor and relevant stakeholders on the security situation and reinforce ongoing efforts to prevent further attacks, protect vulnerable communities, and restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
According to a statement on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, DSP Ani Iniedu said during the engagement, the delegation conveyed the IGP’s deep concern over the loss of the officers and civilians.
The delegation also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police to ensuring that the sacrifice of the fallen officers was not in vain.
The IGP has further directed that all available operational and intelligence resources be brought to bear in identifying, tracking and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
The delegation also reiterated the Disu’s commitment to the welfare of the families of the fallen officers.
He assured that the police will continue to provide the necessary support to the bereaved families in accordance with its welfare policies, while ensuring that the service and sacrifice of the officers are duly honoured.
The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris commended the Nigeria Police Force for the courage and sacrifice of its personnel and expressed the State's continued commitment to supporting the Police and other security agencies in confronting terrorist and criminal elements operating within the state.
The Governor further assured the delegation of sustained collaboration with the security agencies, particularly in strengthening intelligence sharing, supporting operational efforts and denying criminal elements the opportunity to establish or maintain safe havens within the state.
IGP Disu appreciated the Kebbi State Government for its continued partnership and support, reiterating the resolve of the Police to intensify intelligence-led and coordinated operations against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
It pledged continued resolution of the police to the constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, assuring the Force will continue to work with the Kebbi State Government, sister security agencies and local communities to secure the people of Kebbi State and other parts of the country.
The statement stressed that the Nigeria Police Force honours the memory of the fallen officers and stands firmly with their families, assuring the public that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators of the heinous attack to justice.
