The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the people of Osun State to embrace peace to guarantee a violence-free governorship election in the August 15, 2026 election.
INEC, in a short public notice posted to its Facebook page on Thursday, tagged: "#OsunDecides2026🗳️", reminded that, "Democracy is strongest when citizens vote without fear."
The electoral body charged the people to reject violence, embrace tolerance and respect the rule of law.
"As Osun State approaches Election Day, let us reject violence, embrace tolerance, respect the rule of law and protect the sanctity of the ballot," the statement stated.
INEC stressed that, "A peaceful election is a victory for everyone", urging the people of Osun to lead by example.
RhemDy News reports that tension has reached a concerning level ahead of the off-season election in the State amid political violence allegedly coming from the camps of the ruling Accord party and the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Last week, Governor Ademola Adeleke and his frontline contender, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji who is popularly called AMBO, endorsed a peace deal to douse tension and guarantee peaceful conduct of the election in the State.
