Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed deep sadness over the demise of iconic Yoruba actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, who is popularly known by his stage name, Ogogo.
In a statement on Monday posted to his verified Facebook page, Governor Abiodun described Ogogo's death as a painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, the people of his Ilaro community, Yewaland, Ogun State the Nigeria's entertainment industry.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor and illustrious son of Ogun State, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo). His death is a painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, the people of Ilaro and Yewaland, Ogun State and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry," Abiodun said.
The Governor paid tribute to Ogogo as a cultural icon whose remarkable career brought joy to millions and contributed immensely to the growth of the film industry and the promotion of Yoruba culture and values.
"His legacy and contributions will undoubtedly live on for generations," Governor Abiodun stated.
On behalf of his family, the Government and the good people of Ogun State, the Governor commiserates with the family of the late thespian, the people of Ilaro and the entertainment industry.
"May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give everyone he left behind the fortitude to bear this painful loss," Abiodun prayed.
RhemDy News reports that Ogogo died on Sunday after he succumbed to prolonged battle with cancer said to be at Stage 4.
Tributes have continued to pour in for the loved Yoruba actor who ruled the screen for over forty (40) years before his last breath on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The remains of the renowned actor is expected to be interred at his hometown, Ilaro on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites.
