Oriire Abduction: Commission Of Inquiry Calls For Public Memoranda

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry inaugurated last week by the Oyo State Government to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ahoro Esi-ele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area has called on members of the public with relevant information to submit written memoranda to assist its investigation.

RhemDy News recalls that the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, had on July 31, set up the Commission to unravel the circumstances behind the mass abduction that occurred on May 15, 2026.

Governor Makinde saddled the panel with the mandate to establish the facts surrounding the incident, review the response of relevant authorities and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The abducted victims were released after spending about two months in their abductors' custody on July 10, with two of the male teachers murdered by the terrorists to pressure government to acceed to their demands. 

Governor Makinde had in the aftermath of the rescue demanded the United Nations to probe the incident which sparked controversies before he eventually inaugurated the Commission last week.

In a public notice on Monday, the Commission announced that it was "seeking information, facts, evidence, and materials relating to the abduction, including the circumstances surrounding the incident, the security situation before, during, and after the abduction, the response of relevant authorities, and recommendations for preventing a recurrence."

It directed interested persons submitting memoranda to provide their full names, contact details and any supporting documents or materials where applicable.

The Commission said memoranda may be submitted physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service at the State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan or electronically through oysjceoriireabduction@gmail.com with August 14, 2026, as deadline.

It restated the commitment of the Oyo State Government to the safety and security of every community across the State.
