Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised an alarm over the violence resulting in the killing of people ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in the State, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
Governor Adeleke made the call at a campaign rally, urging the President to deploy the police to tackle kidnapping and insecurity in the country.
"President Tinubu, I'm passing this message to you. What do you want Osun State to do because we said we have endorsed you. Why are they killing us; why are they killing Yoruba people?
"The Police are compromised. Kidnappers are there, you don't confront them. President Tinubu, I'm using this time to tell you, so that you won't say I didn't raise the alarm. I'm the Chief Security Officer of Osun State.
"Osun will not accept rigging. We will go out to vote and defend our vote," he said.
Adeleke further warned that the President should not allow a situation that will enable the repeat of political violence of the 1980s.
"I'm repeating it, don't let the incident of 1983 repeat itself. Osun people and Accord Party have endorsed you as our presidential candidate. Why are we suffering, why is our money being kept? Oyetota needs to be called to order," Adeleke stated.
There have been tensions across some communities in Osun State ahead of the governorship election that will be held in less than two weeks.
The ruling party and the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) have accused each other of masterminding violence.
