The General Overseer of Akure, Ondo State based Scripture Group Mission (SGU), Revd. (Dr.) Akintayo Funmilade Suulola, has passed on.

Suulola, a renowned evangelist of Oyo Town ancestry from the royal Agunloye Dynasty passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, according to a statement announcing his passing.

"With deep sorrow and total submission to the will of God, we announce the passing of an icon and a world-renowned Evangelist, Revd. Dr. Akintayo Funmilade Suulola who went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2026".

The statement described the deceased clergy as a man of God who spent his life preaching the Gospel across nations, winning souls, and impacting generations with the Word and power of God.

It added that the Suulola's labour in the Lord will not be forgotten. "He fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord... that they may rest from their labours, and their works follow them. Revelation 14:13."

The statement prayed that the Lord will comfort the family, the church, and all who were blessed by his ministry.

Suulola, a fearless preacher with his signature pure Yoruba delivery loved worshipping and praising God in traditional outfits and enjoyed dancing to talking drums, bata, among other traditional drums.

He was a preacher who maintained that the rich Yoruba culture of drums and traditional outfits are not idolatry and could be integrated into worshipping God.

Suulola believed that preachers who chastise praising God in traditional way are limited in their knowledge.

“The priestly garment we put on as pastors was cultured from Rome and not originally a Christian attires. God is relating to people according to their culture and we shouldn’t look down on anybody culture because no culture is superior to another,” the deceased once argued.
