The Oyo State Government has set September 1, 2026, for the commencement of mandatory waste bin provision for every residential and commercial building across the State.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in the State, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, announced that every household, residential building, business premises, shopping complex and plaza must provide designated waste bins commensurate to the size of the building, the number of occupants and the volume of waste generated.
According to a public notice by the State Government on Wednesday, affected places must provide designated waste bins appropriate to the size of building or business premises.
They mush also patronise only government-accredited Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for waste collection and evacuation and remain up to date with monthly waste disposal payments.
The notice said enforcement teams will verify evidence of payment during inspections and ensure that surroundings remain clean.
"Anyone found engaging unapproved waste contractors or disposing of waste through unauthorised means will face the full weight of the law," the statement stated.
It urged residents and businesses experiencing challenges with waste collection services or seeking information on accredited PSP operators to contact the Oyo State Solid Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA) through the Department of Environmental Health Services, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
