Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a planned attack by Lakurawa terrorist group on residents of Ugwan Hassan Village in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The terrorists were ambushed following a credible intelligence on their movement, prompting the troops to swiftly mobilise and establish a tactical ambush at a known crossing point near the village.
According to the military, the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower during the encounter, forcing the militants to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray.
During an exploitation of the encounter area, the troops recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists for movement and logistics, as well as mobile phones and T&T communication radios.
Also recovered was a Nigerien identity card belonging to one of the fleeing terrorists identified to have hailed from Tilbiri Region of neighbouring Republic of Niger.
The military source disclosed that troops were maintaining an aggressive presence in the area through sustained patrols while pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
According to that military, the operation was aimed at preventing further attacks and ensuring the safety and security of residents in Dandi LGA and surrounding communities.
