Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, in conjunction with the Department of State Services (DSS) and Anambra Vigilante Group, on Saturday stormed the hideout of Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, neutralising two terrorists.
Military sources said the operation dealt another blow to the operational capability of IPOB/ESN elements with the troops dismantling identified strongholds and recovering weapons and Improvised Explosive Device (IED)-making materials.
The operation was a coordinated dawn offensive on identified IPOB/ESN strongholds at Obene Village and Abator Village within Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
According to the Nigerian Army, the insurgents opened fire on sighting the advancing troop before abandoning their positions and fleeing into the surrounding terrain.
The security operatives responded with superior firepower and immediately pursued the fleeing elements.
In the aftermath of the onslaught, blood stains were observed along the fighters' withdrawal route, indicating that some of the them sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter.
While pursuing the insurgents, troops neutralised one of them but other fleeing members escaped with the corpse of another neutralised member.
The Army said the coordinated assault effectively dislodged the group from its strongholds, denying its members the freedom to operate or use the locations as bases for further attacks.
