2 ISWAP Terrorists Surrender, 8 Others Missing In Borno

By RhemDy News

Two suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

Their surrender followed sustained military pressure targeted at weakening terrorist elements across the North East Theatre.

In a statement on Tuesday in Maiduguri by the Acting Military Information Officer
Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the two terrorists surrendered to troops of Sector 3 in Monguno town at about 08:20 pm on September 1, 2026.

Capt Goni added that the surrendered terrorists handed over 2 AK-47 rifles, 8 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and 2 magazines.

Other items recovered from them include 4 Android mobile phones, one button phone, a pair of earbuds, one power bank, one ATM card, one memory card, one USB cable, 2 head warmers and one bag.

He disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the two were among a group of 10 terrorists who left an ISWAP camp at Arinna Chiki with the intention of surrendering to troops.

However, while en route, the group reportedly encountered an ISWAP patrol, resulting in an exchange of fire.

Following the encounter, the whereabouts of the remaining 8 members of the group could not immediately be ascertained, stressing that the troops have intensified efforts to locate them and determine their status.

The two surrendered terrorists, all recovered arms and other items were currently in the custody of Headquarters Sector 3 for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with extant procedures.

The latest surrender further reflects the mounting pressure on terrorist elements as troops of Operation HADIN KAI sustain operations across the Theatre.

The Theatre Command OPHK continues to encourage terrorists willing to abandon violence to surrender to troops and embrace the opportunity provided to return to peaceful life.

Goni assure that the troops remain vigilant and committed to sustaining military pressure against terrorists who choose to continue their campaign of violence, while protecting communities and restoring lasting peace and security across the theatre of operations.
