2,000 Police Personnel To Enjoy 3-month Free Transport Service In Lagos

Not fewer than 2,000 police personnel will benefit 3-month free transportation under the transportation support initiative on designated Lagos State Government transport services.

This is as the Lagos State Police Command has received 2,000 Cowry Cards from the Lagos State Government to support the transportation needs of its personnel serving across the State.

Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Thursday, said the cards were presented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Transportation and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

The IGP was represented at the presentation by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom.

SP Adebisi noted that the initiative, provided under the Lagos State Government’s transportation support programme, will enable the 2,000 Police beneficiaries to enjoy three months of free transportation on designated transport services including the BRT, electric boats, Blue Line and Red Line. 

Adebisi added that after the expectation of the intiatial period, beneficiaries will thereafter enjoy a 50 per cent fare discount.

While conveying the warm appreciation of the IGP, AIG Akpanudom commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the thoughtful initiative and sustained support towards Police welfare through various interventions. 

He noted that the gesture would ease the transportation burden on personnel, serve as a morale booster, and further strengthen the existing partnership between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in promoting public safety, security, and good governance.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, assured that the Cowry Cards would be fairly and transparently distributed to deserving officers and used strictly for the purpose for which they were provided, without abuse or misuse. 

He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability while deploying all available resources towards ensuring a safer Lagos for all residents.
