Army Rescues Kidnapped Wife Of Retired General, Arrests 2 Suspects In FCT

The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, the wife of Brigadier General Basil Adonkie (Rtd), who was abducted from her residence on Tuesday September 1, 2026 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). 

According to a disclosure on its Facebook page on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army said following the incident, troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison immediately launched a coordinated pursuit operation along multiple suspected escape routes to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of Mrs Adonkie.

It explained that acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and established contact with the kidnappers. 

The Army noted that the criminals abandoned the victim having been overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower and fled into nearby bushes thereby resulting to the successful rescue of the victim at Angwan Sabo Village. 

The troops subsequently intensified the pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes and prevent the criminals from evading arrest.

In a follow-up operation on 2 September 2026, troops intercepted the fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. 

Alonside the two suspected kidnappers troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. 

The troops have continued clearance and tracking operations across the general area to apprehend the remaining suspects.

The Nigerian Army commended the vigilance and cooperation of residents and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property. 

The Army, in conjunction with other security agencies remain resolute in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven and joint security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
