Christian, Muslim-dominated Ethiopia, Senegal Live In Harmony Than Nigeria - Shehu Sani

By Remi Adebayo

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has lamented the disunity among Christians and Muslims, resulting in mutual suspicion in Nigeria.

Senator Sani, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), wondered why Nigerians cannot emulate Ethiopia and Senegal, where despite their Christian and Islamic concentrations, have resolved to live together in peace and harmony.

The former federal lawmaker, author, and rights activist, stated this on Thursday on his Facebook page, where he noted that both Christianity and Islam reached these two countries before expanding to Nigeria.

"In Muslim dominated Senegal, Christians and Muslims are living in peace and harmony. In Christian dominated Ethiopia, Muslims and Christians are living in peace and harmony.

"Available records shows that Islam and Christianity reached those countries before it spread to our Nation," he said.

In Nigeria, Sani noted the peculiarity of adherents' religious practices, submitting that those in Ethiopia and Senegal either knew about the two religious better or Nigeria's version and approach were better.

"Our own situation is different. Its either they know the two religions better than us or our version and approach is the right one," Sani said.

Religion has remained a crucial factor in policy and govenernance in Nigeria with efforts being made my concerned stakeholders to limit the adverse consequences among the citizens.
