Effective from Wednesday, September 2, 2026, app-based hailing ride transport company, Uber, will close down its operations in the Nigerian market.
The announcement comes 12 years after Uber launched its operations in the Africa's most populous market.
Citing a thorough review of its business, the company said its Nigerian operations would cease from operation from Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
“We are writing to share some difficult news. After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” Uber said in a statement.
Launched 2012 in Nigeria's commercial nerve centre, Lagos, Uber immediately became the choice of commuters desirous of decent and seamless transportation in the city as well as other locations where it established a remarkable presence.
The company regretted the inconveniences the withdrawal of its services would cause, while also thanking Nigerians for embracing the platform for their daily transport routine.
