Federal workers of the Ministry of Education, on Wednesday, blocked the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, from entering his office at the ministry's headquarters in Abuja.
According to a video posted on X, the aggrieved workers also prevented the Acting Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Folake Olatunji-David, from entering her office.
The protesting workers had gathered at the entrance as a motorcade reportedly conveying the minister arrived at the premises, chanting, “Alausa must go".
The workers' grievances could not be unconnected with the alleged plan by the Federal Government to concession the management of King's College, Lagos to its alumni for a period of 35 years.
“We say no to concession of King’s College. King’s College is not for sale,” they also chanted.
RhemDy News recalls that there has been an ongoing disagreement between the ministry’s workers and the Federal Government over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, as well as other issues raised by the workers’ unions.
The unions have previously demanded the removal of the minister and expressed opposition to the reported 35-year concession of the college to its old boys’ association.
Also part of the concerns raised by the workers include staff welfare and other administrative issues within the ministry.
