No Cleric Abducted At Yari’s Residence In Zamfara — Army

Contrary to the report that some Islamic clerics were abducted at the residence of the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Election Campaign, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the Nigerian Army has described the story as false.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement clarifying the report on Sunday.

While confirming that certain persons were indeed abducted while while traveling from Sububu Forest axis within Bakura Local Government Area en route Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, the statement said the indicident did not occur at the residence of Yari, who was a former governor of the State

"The attention of Headquarters 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) has been drawn to a misleading  report circulating on various  media platforms claiming that a group of Islamic scholars were abducted at the residence of Senator Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

"We wish to categorically refute the claim and set the record straight that no cleric was abducted at Senator Yari’s Residence. The narrative that the abduction took place at the Senator's residence in Talata Mafara is entirely false" Osoba said in the statement. 

He added that intelligence reports confirmed that some persons were abducted while traveling from Sububu forest axis within Bakura Local Government Area en route to Talata Mafara. 

Osoba, however, stated that the troops, in close synergy with sister security agencies and local intelligence networks have intensified efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims.

The statement urged members of the public to disregard sensationalised narratives and unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic or compromising ongoing tactical operations. 

The Army further urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and to continue assisting security forces with timely, actionable intelligence to aid the swift resolution of this threat.
