Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY) on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, neutralised scores of terrorists and intercepted a large cache of ammunition during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna States.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, ambushed the terrorists at Kwanar Jolof.
A statement on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed that troops engaged the terrorists, neutralising scores of them, while others fled in disarray.
Lt.-Col. added that exploitation of the general area led to the recovery of one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle, among other items.
Similarly, on the same day in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa - Zaria Road.
Danja said during the search, one of the passengers resisted inspection of his bag and attempted to escape after being compelled to open it.
The Media Information Officer revealed that troops subsequently pursued the suspect, neutralising him in the process.
A subsequent search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari.
He added that the vehicle and its driver were currently in military custody for further investigation.
Danja said the successful operations formef part of the sustained offensive by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the flow of arms and ammunition, and deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
He assured that troops remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and committed to the restoration of lasting peace across affected communities across the Joint Operations Area.
